Fashion students could consider getting their education online

Online education allows student to pay their school fees faster, because digital degrees cost less than traditional ones

If you are seeking to earn a degree in fashion design but live too far to commute to a traditional program or don’t have the budget for one, you should consider earning a fashion university online degree instead.  Distance learning education is indeed a smart move, both financially and time-wise.

Studying at the online university is convenient, especially for someone who is currently employed. Distant learning degrees include multiple course offerings and programs in the fashion field and other creative arts, so a student considering earning his/her degree online can have a wide variety of choice when it comes to picking a major.

Secondly, a university online degree in fashion can be more affordable than a traditional one. For example, the Southern New Hampshire University Online is one such online university which with annual tuitions under $25,000 for people looking to study fashion. Annual tuition for a bachelor degree ranges around $9,600, which is extremely affordable compared to other programs. You can earn an associate or bachelor degree with this university.

However, cost shouldn’t be the only criteria when choosing an online college. You should also pay attention to other aspects such as accreditation. A non-accredited online university is basically just a diploma mill which basically offers a worthless piece of paper upon graduation.

You should care about accreditation mainly because otherwise you risk ending up with an unrecognized diploma. This in turn will prevent you from securing the job you’ve always wanted. So before getting excited about low tuition fees, make sure you research the college you plan to attend to. Look for testimonials from ex-students or for negative feedback on forums on discussion boards.

Also make sure to get informed about financial aid. If your online college is not offering federal student aid, then it’s probably not accredited and you need to start re-considering your options.

But because fashion online degrees tend to be more affordable, it’s also easier to pay for them. All you need to do is apply for a few scholarship programs. And here’s an example.

Awarded by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, the CBCF Spouses Visual Arts Scholarship was established in 2006 for black students pursuing a career in the visual arts including fashion, but also architecture, ceramics, drawing, graphic design, illustration, interior design, painting, photography, sketching, video production and other visual arts.

Like most scholarships this one has a minimum GPA requirement, although in this case you’ll need to have a GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale – which is not that strict.

If that’s your case, you’ll be expected to put together a portfolio including your Resume (with an accent on extracurricular activities, community service and special skills), two letters of recommendations, official transcript and a copy of detailed Federal Student Aid Report (SAR). Last but not least, candidates are asked to send in five original pieces of artwork for the art genre they are applying.

The foundation will award 10 grants each worth $3,000. You have until April 28, 2018 to put your portfolio and application together.
